SUMMARY:Webinar: New Disclosure Avoidance Principles
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar we’ll describe a framework of principles we have developed to evaluate the strengths and limitations of different applied disclosure avoidance systems for our statistical products. We’ll also describe how these principles relate to\, and are different from\, the decisions that must be made when applying any form of disclosure avoidance to a statistical product. \nClick Here to RSVP

SUMMARY:Virtual Briefing: How the Census Measures Racial Identity
DESCRIPTION:As politics\, policy\, migration and attitudes about racial identity changed over time\, so did the categories used in later counts. That makes the census both a mirror and a snapshot of how Americans see themselves – and how the government sees them. \nThis webinar brings together the author of Pew Research Center’s Counting Race: How the Census Measures Identity and What Americans Think About It\, and leaders from the Arab American Institute and MALDEF to examine how federal race and ethnicity categories are defined\, interpreted\, and experienced across different communities. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists following the presentation. \nThis webinar is designed for state and local advocates\, community-based organizations\, government officials\, funders\, and partners committed to ensuring every community is counted\, and resourced\, fairly. \nWe hope you will join us for this critical session. \nClick Here to RSVP\n  \nClick Here to View the Report

SUMMARY:LUCA: Improving Census Data. Here’s How\, Starting Now
DESCRIPTION:BACKGROUND: \nThe Census Bureau’s first operation in preparation for the 2030 census is the Local Update of Census Addresses\, or LUCA\, and it needs your help in updating its address list. Preparation starts now. States\, local jurisdictions and tribal nations can identify areas with hidden and low-visibility housing\, lots of in-fill and new residential developments; areas recovering from disasters; and areas with nontraditional addresses. \nWhy bother? To make the census count more accurate! If an address or housing unit isn’t on the Census Bureau’s list\, the people living there might not be counted in the 2030 census. An accurate census means communities receive their fair share of federal and state resources and political representation! \nIn this webinar cosponsored by the National League of Cities\, the National Association of Counties\, the International City/County Management Association and NCSL\, learn about the steps you and your partners can take now to get this critical census activity right! \nIf you are unable to register or have other questions\, contact registration@ncsl.org \nClick Here to RSVP

SUMMARY:Using poverty and health insurance facts in hard times (Coalition on Human Needs)
DESCRIPTION:BACKGROUND: \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Census Bureau will release poverty\, income\, health insurance\, and other 2024 data on September 9 and 11. CHN’s webinar\, ahead of the release\, will teach you how to find state and local as well as national data\, to help you show the connection between federal and state policy choices and numbers of people in poverty or uninsured.\n\nWe know Congress and the President have made some policy choices that\, if left unchanged\, will sharply cut funding and benefits for basic needs programs. So it’s especially important to show how earlier policy improvements reduced poverty and the number of people without health insurance – we’ll show you how to make those points for your state\, and how to make the connection to the dangers ahead.\n\nSpeakers include an expert panel with Christopher Wimer\, Director\, Columbia University’s Center on Poverty and Social Policy\, Danilo Trisi\, Consultant\, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities\, and Gina Plata-Nino\, Interim SNAP Director\, Food Research and Action Center. We’ll welcome Edwin Park\, Research Professor at the Georgetown U. Center for Children and Families to talk about trends for the uninsured. And you’ll also get CHN’s Executive Director Deborah Weinstein’s annual hands-on\, practical tips on exactly where to find the data you need in the Census Bureau releases showing poverty\, with breakdowns by age\, race/ethnicity\, and disability\, policies that can reduce poverty\, and health insurance trends.\n\nAll registrants will receive the webinar recording and slides\, as well as other resources in advance of the Census Bureau’s releases on Sept. 9 and 11. And you’ll also receive quick analyses of the new data after its release\, including tables with breakdowns by state and congressional district\, by age and race/ethnicity.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick Here to RSVP
