SUMMARY:Census Under Attack: Community Rights Briefing & Sign On Invitation Against Proposed Rule
DESCRIPTION:Last month\, the Census Bureau proposed significant changes to the decennial census with a rule that harms our communities through exclusion and discrimination. \nThe proposed rule: excludes millions of noncitizens\, including undocumented immigrants\, visa\, DACA\, and TPS holders\, and refugees and asylum seekers awaiting adjudication from representation; omits Census questions about race and ethnicity or sexual orientation; and\, along with other changes\, will result in the undercount of millions of US residents. \nThe impacts of this proposal would be severe and far-reaching. We would lose protections against discrimination; funding for schools\, health clinics\, and social services; and fair representation in government. \nJoin Asian Law Caucus\, Common Cause\, Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC\, and Partners for a community rights briefing on what we can do to challenge the proposed rule\, together:\n+ Hear from leaders across the country on census advocacy and organizing\n+ Join sign on letters opposing the proposed rule\n+ Amplify best practices\, messaging\, and templates to your community \nHope you can make it!
