The Leadership Conference is excited to announce that we are launching a Census Book Club! The book club will feature a series of books to deepen our understanding of the census and its impacts. Book club members will read one book every quarter and meet as a group to engage in a conversation with the author. We look forward to compiling a comprehensive reading list for census advocates, while coming together to learn more about the rich history and implications of the census.
The inaugural book of the Census Book Club will be Democracy’s Data: The Hidden Stories in the U.S. Census and How to Read Them, a new release by data historian Dan Bouk. This book examines the 1940 U.S. Census and the many stories hidden behind the data. Readers will have the opportunity to uncover the truth and gain a new perspective on the census. We are excited to engage in conversation with Dan Bouk, and hope you will join us!
Register here for Census Book Club and one of two conversation sessions with the author: September 28 at 2p.m. ET or October 12 at 5p.m. ET. The first 20 participants to sign up for the book club and a conversation session will receive a free copy of the book! Selected participants will be notified by email. Attendance at the author conversation sessions will be limited, so register early!
